REVIEW. MAHOGANY SESSIONS: UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL.
OXFORDSHIRE, UK.
A real money-can’t-buy experience awaited BMW i Pure Impulse members who took a behind-the-scenes peek at the making of the latest Mahogany Session video in mid-April. Shot in a carefully selected location, this video production was staged exclusively for BMW i Pure Impulse guests in a Bicester Heritage hangar with upcoming artist Toby Johnson as the star.
The unique weekend kicked off in style at the Minster Mill hotel in the Cotswolds, a newly opened property that exudes country charm. The 38 members from Belgium, the UK and the Netherlands met for a lively evening which encompassed a welcome dinner, short briefing on the next day’s activities with scenic road book handover, and teasers about the upcoming Mahogany Session, all set in a private room in the neighbouring Old Swan property.
The following morning, which took the guests from the hotel to the production set, brought together a collection of memorable moments in lovely rural English settings: the wonderful scenic drive through the Cotswolds, a typical ‘pub lunch’ at the renowned ‘The Bell’ in the quaint village of Hampton Poyle and the arrival at Bicester Heritage. Here guests were treated to coffee and homemade pastries served from a nostalgic VW Transporter after parking their BMW i8s inside the impressive hangar.
Next it was onto the ‘main event’, starting with a meet-and-greet with the Mahogany team, led by the executive producer and director. During the afternoon, the guests were able to delve into the world of music video production with in-depth discoveries into sound and video recording, on a set surrounded by monitors for better viewing and through headphones handed out to all guests. They didn’t miss a beat of Toby Johnson’s performance, which was accompanied by drums, bass and trumpet.
The day was completed with the return leg of the scenic drive to the Minster Mill hotel and an excellent private dinner in the property’s beautiful Windrush space. In attendance and much quizzed throughout the evening were some of the Mahogany team and Toby Johnson himself, with the artist giving an acoustic performance of his upcoming EP before dinner – another exclusive musical treat to round off a truly unforgettable day.
